Those we lost during World War II (or any war for that matter), will never be forgotten. You would think with a number of documentaries, books that have been made about the war we must have learned everything. Netflix has one more up their sleeves with Five Came Back when Hollywood faced the face of fascism and help win the war, check out the trailer…

Laurent Bouzereau‘s 3 part Doucmentary series is based on Mark Harris best-selling book “Five Came Back: A Story of Hollywood and the Second World War,”The story of five filmmakers who gave up their filmmaking to risk their lives.

Adapted from Mark Harris’ best-selling book, “Five Came Back: A Story of Hollywood and the Second World War,” and directed by Laurent Bouzereau, the three-part docuseries tells the extraordinary story of how Hollywood changed World War II – and how World War II changed Hollywood, through the interwoven experiences of five filmmakers who interrupted their successful careers to serve their country, risk their lives and bring the truth back to the American people: John Ford, William Wyler, John Huston, Frank Capra, and George Stevens. To guide viewers through the different personalities, interweaving chronologies and globe-trotting locales, the Five Came Back team turned to the voices of five modern cinematic masters: Steven Spielberg, Francis Ford Coppola, Guillermo Del Toro, Paul Greengrass and Lawrence Kasdan. Three-time Oscar-winner Meryl Streep provides the narration for Five Came Back.

It looks a fascinating series and even though some of us may think we’ve seen it all, just maybe we haven’t. We’re all cinephiles at heart and seeing one of the world’s greatest historical events through the eyes of 5 men who brought us pleasure on the big screen might just be a must watch.

Five Came Back is set for a global release from 31st March.
