Short Film Review – Trouser Snake

Trouser Snake is a horror comedy short film from 2016. It is a film that can be seen now on YouTube.

The film is very much an homage film to the creature features of the 50’s. When a monster rears its ugly head a young couple’s romantic night is very much interrupted by this odd, and creepy monster serious event.

I loved this film so much it is a horror comedy and it surely rings in the comedy well. It is set up to play as an homage to 50s creature features, but also have elements of cheesy 80’s horror mixed in there. It is fun and different from the horror films of recent years. Being mainly a slasher and Home Invasion horror film fan I wanted to expand my genre a little bit and I am so pleased that I have kicked it off with this film.

I think the film does a very good job of trying not to take its self to seriously and I think in many ways that are a major benefit to the film. It tells the story really well and I actually think the mediocre acting plays in the film’s favour.

There is really nothing not to like about the film, the editing is a little choppy but I think that come with the homage feel the film was going for. Overall this film is a fun and interesting watch and if you get to see the film in festivals or online I would love to hear your thoughts.

It is interesting to see film that in all honesty could have passed as genuine 50s creature features with the story. Or even better an 80s horror comedy.

I would actually like to see a feature film version of this I do think it would do well in the current film market. Especially now with streaming sites like Netflix and such.

Trouser Snake is a fun, excellent watch and running at under 5 minutes is a great time frame.
