It’s astonishing to think there was one time in our history falling in love with someone whose colour of skin could get you into trouble, even jailed. Jeff Nichols latest movie Loving, a true story of interracial love, childhood sweethearts jailed thanks to racial laws.With one week to go until release, we have a brand new featurette called ‘Mildred‘ focused on Ruth Negga’s character Mildred Loving. As Negga and her co-star Joel Edgerton (Richard Loving) along with director Nichols discuss the complexities of the true story. It was also illegal too.

Loving celebrates the real-life courage and commitment of an interracial couple, Richard and Mildred Loving, who married and then spent the next nine years fighting for the right to live as a family in their hometown. Their civil rights case, Loving v. Virginia, went all the way to the Supreme Court, which in 1967 reaffirmed the very foundation of the right to marry – making their love story an inspiration to couples everywhere.

2008-2011 I was also in an interracial relationship with a Chinese woman and experienced some racism, walls. Not as much as the Lovings experienced, but enough to know love is colour blind. The movie has been receiving solid reviews since it’s world premiere at Cannes Film Festival in 2016.
