Alongside The A-Team, Baywatch, TJ Hooker, Knight Rider, CHIPs was a staple part Saturday Day/ primetime Television viewing. 34 years after it ended it’s coming back this time to the big screen and today Warner Bros reveal the movies first UK trailer.
With Baywatch big screen movie coming later this year, it’s no surprise that another 1980’s TV show is getting the Hollywood treatment. Like it or not ‘Chip Happens’, check out the trailer…
In CHIPs,Jon Baker (Shepard) and Frank “Ponch” Poncherello (Peña) have just joined the California Highway Patrol (CHP) in Los Angeles but for very different reasons. Baker is a beaten up pro motorbiker trying to put his life and marriage back together. Poncherello is a cocky undercover Federal agent investigating a multi-million dollar heist that may be an inside job—inside the CHP.
The inexperienced rookie and hardened pro are teamed together, but clash more than click, so kickstarting a partnership is easier said than done. But with Baker’s bike skills combined with Ponch’s street savvy it might just work…if they don’t drive each other crazy along the way.
I was born in 1975 and I do remember the TV version which starred Eric Estrada and Larry Wilcox. It ran for 6 years, so there must have been enough fanbase to create this upcoming feature. When 21 Jump Street a few years back , it was an unexpected it, What it has done is set the standards for the Buddy cop movie. Same time as a lot of movies these days seemed to be aimed at a younger audience will they cater for that generation? Using 21 Jump Street basis they will but they don’t want to alienate the hardcore fan base. Our only concern is every movie from that generation seems to be taking the same route, which could stagnate if future movies follow suit.
CHIPs is set for a 24th March UK&Irish release date with Rosa Salazar, Adam Brody, Kristen Bell and Vincent D’Onofrio.
