Life and growing up is probably the hardest journey everyone has to go through at one part of our lives. In Barry Jenkins coming of age tale Moonlight, we follow a boy becoming a man discovering himself. Ahead of it’s UK cinema release Altitude Entertainment have sent us UK Trailer, melancholic, intimate tale…
Barry Jenkin‘s movie has been quietly being brewing Stateside as an outsider for the upcoming Oscars in February. Thanks to London film Festival and Altitude Entertainment it will be a movie we’ll hear a lot about.
A timeless story of human connection and self-discovery,MOONLIGHT chronicles the life of a young black man from childhood to adulthood as he struggles to find his place in the world while growing up in a rough neighbourhood of Miami.
At once a vital portrait of contemporary African American life and an intensely personal and poetic meditation on identity, family, friendship, and love, MOONLIGHT is a groundbreaking piece of cinema that reverberates with deep compassion and universal truths. Anchored by extraordinary performances from a tremendous ensemble cast, Jenkins’s staggering, singular vision is profoundly moving in its portrayal of the moments, people, and unknowable forces that shape our lives and make us who we are.
This looks a striking piece of storytelling that’s an exploration of masculinity, sexuality and family life. The days of been openly gay male or female and been a taboo are well gone. Sadly some parts of society still live in the past and cannot accept everyone is uniquely different. This movie is set in 1985 attitudes were still different and been gay and also black surrounded by things that are seen ‘heterosexual’, ‘macho’ your mind is certainly going to be a mess, a war inside your head.
Moonlight stars Naomie Harris, André Holland, Mahershala Ali, Janelle Monáe,Trevante Rhodes, Ashton Sanders, Jharrel Jerome. Movie is out in UK&Ireland 17th February 2017.
