They always say keep your friends close and your enemies closer but what if your friend is the enemy? In the first UK trailer for Transformers: The Last Knight Optimus Prime goes for Bumblebee but why? In the fifth instalment of Transformers Franchise, Michael Bay looks like he’ll take us on the insanely bonkers ride that teases to expand on the robots mythology.
When it comes to that mythology Paramount Pictures are taking us deep into the history of humanity back to medieval England. From King Arthur time travelling to battle nazis in world war two, it seems those Transformers origins are even more intertwined in humanity. The previous movies have all hinted this from the Pyramids, moon landings, even the extinction of the dinosaurs
We may have the first official trailer however this promo is essentially a teaser and still don’t have the actual plot apart from this movie is set after Age Of Extinction. we also get a sort of plot is it a short one of “Two species at war – one flesh, one metal“. The trailer is like a history lesson on our violence through the centuries and sets up the current day arc of Transformers Reaction Force tracking down the bots forcing Cade Yeager (Mark Wahlberg) to go on the run too.
Does this trailer reveal Optimus Prime is actually evil? Why does Prime impale his ‘friend’? Could this be working into the spin-off movie Bumblebee is apparently set to get thus setting up the future spin-off/Transformers movies?
This may have a more serious tone compared to previous movies. There is plenty of iconographies throughout could resemble a ‘death’ or ‘rebirth’.Anthony Hopkins narrates helps support the seriousness of the movie, but the question is why does a Oscar winner starring in a Transformers movie? The franchise is a healthy cash cow for the studio critically may not be the best movie to star in. Everything does seem to be in a slow motion including the music, but don’t worry the Baymeister specials explosions, quick shots arrive half way through.
Transformers: The Last Knight is set for a summer 2017 UK&Irish release date with 23rd June been a possibility. The movie starring alongside Laura Haddock,Stanley Tucci, Jerrod Carmichael, John Goodman, John Turturro, Josh Duhamel, Isabela Moner, Gil Birmingham, and Jean Dujardin.
