After several U.S Trailers built up the tension, sense of pride and Heroes, Lionsgate Films have finally released the UK Trailer for Patriot’s Day. Just as our American cousins reveal their final trailer, we get our first look at the movie based on the 2013 Boston Marathon event. An event with emotions running high and ordinary people becoming heroes.

Ever since hooking up with Mark Wahlberg in 2013 with Lone Survivor, Peter Berg‘s directorial work has been on a more successful run. Most recently with Deepwater Horizon moving into fact-based true life dramas that have seen ordinary people in harrowing events. Patriot’s Day pits those everyday heroes who inspired the world in the extraordinary hours that followed.

In the aftermath of an unspeakable act of terror, Police Sergeant TOMMY SAUNDERS (Mark Wahlberg) joins forces with courageous survivors, first responders and investigators in a race against the clock to hunt down the bombers before they strike again. Weaving together the stories of Special Agent RICHARD DESLAURIERS (Kevin Bacon), Police Commissioner ED DAVIS (John Goodman), Sergeant JEFFREY PUGLIESE (J.K. Simmons) and nurse CAROL SAUNDERS (Michelle Monaghan) this visceral and unflinching chronicle captures the intensity and edge-of-the-seat suspense that riveted the world.

Like Deepwater Horizon, it looks like Berg will follow the same road for this one with a human focus strangers who themselves in danger to help others who are strangers to them. Heroes in the making and Berg hopes he can unify his country but with political sensitivity in the U.S, you wonder if that will be everyone. It seems the movie won’t focus much on the actual explosion but effects on those people involved in the day too. Will it get too intense making it tough for people to relate too?

Patriot’s Day is set for a 23rd February 2017 UK&Irish release date (out today 21st December in the USA).
