He knows how to use a lightsaber and follow the teachings of ‘The Dark Side’ In Jim Jarmusch‘s Paterson, Adam Driver lives up to his surname and drives a bus. Ahead of the movie’s UK cinematic release next month Soda Pictures have sent us the UK version of the film’s trailer. The film tells the story of the titular Paterson, a bus driver (Adam Driver) in the city of Paterson, New Jersey. A budding but unassuming poet, Paterson spends his days following a simple routine with little need for deviation, all the while taking inspiration from the beautiful simplicities of the everyday.
Written and directed by Jarmusch, Paterson is a reflective and potent film that quietly observes the triumphs and defeats of daily life, along with the poetry evident in its smallest details.
A lot of the festival awards talk was on Ken Loach‘s I, Daniel Blake, Jarmusch’s movie made it’s world premiere at Cannes Film Festival.Selected for Palme d’Or losing out to Loach’s social-drama but picking up glowing reviews from those fortunate to see the movie.
What many critic reviews have all agreed that Adam Driver is the standout , some critics describing his performance as a ‘Career Best’. Driver has moulded a unique career with a mixture of independent and mainstream movies, with Star Wars: The Force Awakens as the movies villain. To Jeff Nicholl‘s Midnight Special, with a part in Martin Scorsese’s Silence (out 1st January 2017 in the UK) to coming up.
Jim Jarmusch‘s career is a bit like a child night before Christmas, can never settle in one movie genre, though this is not a bad thing. Never scared to go into any movie genre without losing the subtleties or personal touches that make the director so popular. He doesn’t always follow a narrative but more his gut and that’s brought us some truly fantastic diverse movies. Soulful, evocative, melancholic , intimate, mundane, off-beat, Surreal Jarmusch certainly covers all the bases. You could say he’s stepped out of his comfort zone and once again delivered the goods.
Paterson will be released in UK&Ireland by Soda Pictures on 25th November (28th December USA), also starring Golshifteh Farahani, Barry Shabaka Henley and Method Man.
