Life First Trailer Donnie Darko, Deadpool Search For Life On Mars

In the 1970s David Bowie sang about it, in 2017 Donnie Darko and Deadpool looks like they will find Life on Mars. In the first International (UK) Trailer for Life what Jake Gyllenhaal, Ryan Reynolds find they may just wish they hadn’t. Airing last night in USA during The Walking Dead, Sony Pictures have now sent us the UK version as Daniel Espinosa (Safehouse) takes us into space that takes us into Alien territory, check it out…

Life tells the story of the six-member crew of the International Space Station that is on the cutting edge of one of the most important discoveries in human history: the first evidence of extraterrestrial life on Mars. As the crew begins to conduct research, their methods end up having unintended consequences and the life form proves more intelligent than anyone ever expected.

Written by the duo who brought us Zombieland and Deadpool (Paul Wernick, Rhett Reese) after the undead, Superheroes the terror heads to space. Aliens certainly comes into the frame, so does Event Horizon and using those great movies as inspiration perfectly fine as this looks pretty good.

This is the international version, however, a U.S version was also released to which shows you a slightly different approach. In the American version Gyllenhaal, Reynolds and Rebecca Ferguson find themselves under attack by the ‘alien’ with chaos breaking out. In our version, we get this plus a slice of eeriness when it comes to Gyllenhaal’s response to what’s going on. What we also get is more character development with leaving that alien attack to the end we get a sense of dread too.

Sony has put together a fantastic task which shows they mean business and they will have to with Life. 2017 is going to be a busy year for space based movies with Alien Covenant, God Particle, Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets, and Guardians of The Galaxy Vol 2 all due out. So it shows a lot of promise and that no matter how great of equipment we may have, the mystery of what is waiting for us in deep space and how to handle it when the first contact is made still has that terrifying edge.

Life is set for a May 2017 UK&Irish Cinema release date with Jake Gyllenhaal,Rebecca Ferguson,Olga Dihovichnaya, Ariyon Bakare,Hiroyuki Sanada And Ryan Reynolds.
