31 Days Of Horror (Day 25) – Pontypool (2008)

Pontypool is a psychological Horror film from Canada. A small Canadian town is plagued by a deadly virus and once you find out how the virus spreads you will be speechless.

Pontypool is a film that has always fascinated me, as it is such a brilliant and subtle slow burning horror film. For the most part, not too much actually happens While at the same time a lot happens. We see employees of a small town local radio station(Stephen McHattie, Lisa Houle) reporting on the strange happenings and behaviours of their fellow townspeople until they find out the reason, which is where the film picks up and we really get the action.

As I mentioned not a lot happens but in a film like this that is actually a benefit, this is essentially a zombie film but it is not your typical zombie film. In fact this si a film that I have been freaked out about ever since I seen the film many years ago, reason being is because for some reason this film seems so realistic to me, and is something I can totally see happening in reality. I have actually spoken to a few people who have felt the same.

I am not saying that I believe that the events in the film would happen but out of all the zombie Tv shows and films, this is the most realistic in reality terms that I could see happening.I think that could be the reason why this film is so highly respected.

This was a shocker of a film for me to see as I am not one for the zombie genre I really was not looking forward to watching this and thankfully I really enjoyed this film and in fact found myself wanting to explore the genre more.

This is a film I highly recommend to you all. I am subtle and eerie, even with some comedic parts to it. I think this si one that will either make you love the horror genre or will make you want to watch more from the zombie genre.

Pontypool is  a wonderful and show-stopping film that will have you on the edge of your seat.
