Everyone like’s a good weepy and Will Smith will be hoping you will be this Boxing day with his latest film Collateral Beauty. The Suicide Squad may have critically had Smith in tears but this time he will be hoping you will be in his latest film and today we get a look at the film’s First UK Trailer. A father who copes with the grief by writing asking why the Universe is screwing with him, only connect him time, love and death….
Don’t expect to have free hands for your popcorn as they will be full with bags of of your favourite handkerchief brands as you’ll need plenty of them. It’s a film leading man Will Smith described to an American magazine as ‘It’s A Wonderful Life meets a little bit of The Wizard Of Oz‘ probably why the film also has an elusive festive period release date.
In Collateral Beauty, when a successful New York advertising executive (Will Smith) experiences a deep personal tragedy and retreats from life entirely, his colleagues devise a drastic plan to force him to confront his grief in a surprising and profoundly human way.
When we watch the trailer you may think this film is a little clichéd and you would be correct. However this is the type of film that goes down well during the Christmas season. Sentimental, sappy but nice film to escape the stresses of life and Christmas day, shed a few tears get ready for the new year! Plenty of heart that could capture a little bit of the spirit of It’s A Wonderful Life. It’s a bag of emotions which hopefully won’t fall into Smith’s previous similar films like Seven Pounds deliver something more convincing and this has the potential to rise above.
Collateral Beauty will arrive in UK&Ireland on Boxing Day 26th December, however USA release 16th December does see the film up against a small sci-fi film from the Star Wars Universe. The film also stars Edward Norton, Keira Knightley, Kate Winslet, Helen Mirren, Michael Peña and Naomie Harris. Oscar winner David Frankel (Devil Wears Prada) directs.
