Allied

Good old fashioned love story mixed with a world war setting can be a match made in heaven, it worked for Humphrey Bogart and Ingrid Bergman in Casablanca. In Robert Zemeckis Alied starring Brad Pitt and Marion Cotillard as assassins in love during World War 2 and today Paramount Pictures tease us with a first look 60 second TV Spot

Allied follows Max Vatan (Brad Pitt) and Marianne Beausejour (Marion Cotillard),a British Intelligence and French Resistance assassins who fall in love during a mission in Casablanca in 1942 to kill a German ambassador. A future together, however, is thrown into tumult when twisty secrets from their pasts cast doubts on their love for each other.

On first impressions you might say Bogie’s classic has probably inspired Zemeckis latest film which is based on a Steven Knight(Peaky Blinders) script. Based around a story he was told when he was 21 from a girl he was dating, her auntie and her British secret service Brother. It’s a story that’s stuck with him, now with a bit of tweaking, talented imagination as well as star power and of course a established director.

When you first look at Allied it has a Mr&Mrs Smith feel to it with a historic premise but this is more drama than absurd goofiness of modern day assassin. The main protagonists maybe pretending to love each other but like love story, things get real and the love becomes real but Nazis will be Nazis. So we looking at a potential Oscar contender? It has the trimmings The Academy love, so never say never especially with the season the big contenders come out to play.

No official UK&Irish release date confirmed from what we’ve seen 25th November might be Paramount Pictures pencilled date. Allied also stars Lizzy Caplan, Matthew Goode, Raffey Cassidy, Charlotte Hope, and Jared Harris.
