Makoto Shinkai’s Your Name To Get Limited UK Cinema Release

Anime getting a UK cinema release is very rare these days, usually Studio Ghibli films are the only anime that get a proper release. Thanks to Showcase Cinemas & Vue Cinemas things are about to change this November  when they will screen one of Makoto Shinkai‘s Your Name (Kimi no Na Wa) this November.

The cinema chains confirmed the news via their own websites which will be a rare treat for UK anime fans who really only get to watch new releases via DVD or Blu-ray. The only time they do see anime on the big screens is via Film Festivals and Scotland Loves Anime which happens in Glasgow and Edinburgh every October. Could Your Name possibly make it’s premiere at SLA ?

Your Name tells the story of  Mitsuha and Taki are two total strangers living completely different lives. But when Mitsuha makes a wish to leave her mountain town and for the bustling city of Tokyo, they become connected in a bizarre way. She dreams she is a boy living in Tokyo while Taki dreams he is a girl from a rural town he’s never been to.

It’s expected this will have a home release in UK&Ireland too, that date we do not have at this stage, but the cinema release will happen on 24th November. What’s great about this release is the fact it will be nationwide not just a London release, here’s the list of Participating cinemas.
