In 1975 ,Steven Spielberg made us fear going in the water again when he released the iconic Jaws movie. It was a film that exploited the human physique for the fear of open waters, isolation most of all the key elements of horror. There’s never really been a movie to match or even defeat the success of Jaws in the last 41 years until now,Jaume Collet-Serra‘s The Shallows. To get us into a an intense but exciting mood for the shark thriller we have a selection of new clips that might make you think twice about surfing!
In this clip called ‘Line Up‘ our surfers get themselves lined up for the incoming waves, however our heroine Nancy (Blake Lively) is a little more cautious. As the waves arrive we see they have an un-welcomed predatory visitor.
In our second clip ‘Survival Vignette‘ which is more of an featurette which Blake Lively talks about her character Nancy, who she is. Also director Collet-Serra and producer Matti Lesham talk about what the film is all about. Amongst the chats there is new snippets of footage, most of see why people love surfing despite the dangers that lurk below!
In the taut thriller The Shallows, when Nancy (Blake Lively) is surfing on a secluded beach, she finds herself on the feeding ground of a great white shark. Though she is stranded only 200 yards from shore, survival proves to be the ultimate test of wills, requiring all of Nancy’s ingenuity, resourcefulness, and fortitude.
You could say, humans sometimes don’t respect the seas. We forget there is life in the waters and whilst we can share, there is also creatures who may only see you as their next meal. The advantage of living in UK or Ireland when a film is about to be released we know what to expect and The Shallows reviews from U.S.A have been wonderful. There seems to be a sense of realism to this movie ,surfers and sharks seem to have too many run insand Nancy’s survival been the key and keeping to that realism seems to be the task one that looks like this film may just deliver on.
The Shallow arrives in UK on 12th August, starring Oscar Jaenada and Sedona Legge.
