Ahead of it’s world premiere at Cannes Film Festival David McKenzie‘s Hell Or High Water unveils it’s first trailer. When it comes to the idiom this film is named after how far would we go when your at your lowest ebb? Would you go as far as robbing a bank to save your family home?
With a solid cast of Chris Pine, Ben Foster along with the impressible Jeff Bridges we have decent suspenseful crime drama, with help of a script written by Sicario scribe Taylor sheridan.
In Hell Or High Water two brothers, Toby (Chris Pine)an divorced father of 2 kids and Tanner (Ben Foster)an ex-con, face the prospect of losing their dying mothers farm. What do you do? The pair decide to go on a bank robbery spree to the farm but what was meant to be one robbery, thanks to trigger happy Tanner. As they try to make a better future for themselves it puts them on a collision course with a West Texas Ranger (Jeff Bridges) determined to take them down, before he retires.
This film was on 2012 blacklist under the name of Comancheria and was regarded one of the best un-produced scripts. McKenzie has made a name for himself directing well grounded British independent dramas such as Young Adam, Hallam Foe and the underrated Glasgow based Perfect Sense (starring Ewan McGregor, Eve Green). For cinefiles it will be his last film, the 2013 gritty prison drama Starred Up (starring a breakout performance by Jack O’Connell) he will be known for internationally. The film was a late entry into the Un Certain Regard section of Cannes which could be a sign how highly regarded this film is.
This is the American trailer (out 12th August USA), so no word on when Hell Or High Water will be released in UK. The film also stars Gil Birmingham, Kevin Rankin and Katy Mixon.
