Trekkies worldwide will be celebrating 50 years of their favourite Sci-Fi TV Show and this July they will be even more excited when Star Trek Beyond arrives in Cinemas, This morning your Saturday just got even better as the second new UK trailer has arrived and its explosive, action packed most of all epic!
The first trailer was all ‘sabotage’ delivering a mixed message but 50 years on that trouble and destruction thats followed the crew of the Enterprise is still there. Fortunately now we have this new trailer which showcases why Justin Lin was chosen as the new director pardon the punt delivering something that’s ‘Fast&Furious’!
The trailer premièred at a Star Trek fan event in Los Angeles, California at Paramount Studios. They also announced those lucky folks heading to San Diego in July for Comic-Con they will experience the film’s world première in the first ever outdoor IMAX screen with live orchestra!
Whilst we love this trailer, the plot for Star Trek Beyond is still a bit of a mystery. It’s a more character focused promo which suggests James Tiberius Kirk (Chris Pine) might be the main focus. Kirk stills seems to be haunted by his father, struggling to step out of the shadow of his father’s legacy. What type of captain does he want to be does that journey get the crew into trouble as we see them abandon ship? What we do know is the Enterprise are in the middle of that 5 year mission to explore the galaxy and boldly go where no one has gone before. Suddenly things go wrong when they confront new unknown baddie Krall (Idris Elba) who is against all that Federation Of Planets (aka Starfleet) stand for. The attack find s the crew scrambling to a nearby planet, scattered everywhere could mean the crew attempt to re-unite with each other to regain control of the Enterprise.
Fundamentally this still has the ethos JJ Abrams (now on producing duties) but as if Lin has mind-meld with Abrams. Like as if his own personal stamp he created with Fast&Furious, atmospheric, energetic most of all entertaining. Those exciting over the top set pieces Lin likes seem to fit naturally into the Star Trek universe and yes that is a crazy motorbike jump too!
Star Trek Beyond is set to arrive in UK, Irish and U.S cinemas from 22nd July. Also starring Zachary Quinto, Zoe Saldana, Karl Urban, Simon Pegg, John Cho, Anton Yelchin, Joe Taslim, Sofia Boutella.
