The Space Between Us UK Trailer Confirms Boys Are From Mars

The Space Between US Butterfield

Mars is a planet ready for life according to the UK trailer for The Space Between Us a ground breaking mission carried more than it bargained for. In the brilliant The Martian Matt Damon fought to leave the red planet, for Asa Butterfield it’s the only place he knows so we know now boys are from Mars. Are girls from Venus?

In this interplanetary adventure, a space shuttle embarks on the first mission to colonize Mars, only to discover after takeoff that one of the astronauts is pregnant. Shortly after landing, she dies from complications while giving birth to the first human born on the red planet – never revealing who the father is. Thus begins the extraordinary life of Gardner Elliot – an inquisitive, highly intelligent boy who reaches the age of 16 having only met 14 people in his very unconventional upbringing.

While searching for clues about his father, and the home planet he’s never known, Gardner begins an online friendship with a street smart girl in Colorado named Tulsa. When he finally gets a chance to go to Earth, he’s eager to experience all of the wonders he could only read about on Mars – from the most simple to the extraordinary. But once his explorations begin, scientists discover that Gardner’s organs can’t withstand Earth’s atmosphere.

Eager to find his father, Gardner escapes the team of scientists and joins with Tulsa on a race against time to unravel the mysteries of how he came to be, and where he belongs in the universe.

Interplanetary love is the name of the game for this film. You might think due to Gardner been ‘trapped’ on Mars this might be another ‘bring him home’ film however as the trailer progresses we start understand it’s not more a young love story. Butterfield and Roberston look solid commanding the screen with addictive on screen chemistry. I’ll be honest, until the launch of American trailer couple of days a go I didn’t know much about this film. Today we have the UK version, a film with an intriguing  premise and strong support cast is certainly teasing my curiosities.

Starring Gary Oldman, Carla Gugino, BD Wong and Britt Robertson. The Space Between Us is Directed by Peter Chelsom (Hector and the Search for Happiness),and will be released across UK and Ireland  on 19th August 2016.
