Our cinema screens (and small ones) for the past 10 years seem to be bombardied by endless reboots, remakes some leaving us perplexed others excited. In 2017 like it or not The Power Rangers are coming back are tonight we get a glimpse at the Rangers and question I ask is….Are they The Mighty Morphin Power Rangers or rip offs of Ultrman?
the all-new Power Rangers suits! The new cast — singer Becky G as Yellow Ranger Trini, Ludi Lin as Black Ranger Zack, Dacre Montgomery as Red Ranger Jason, Naomi Scott as Pink Ranger Kimberly, and RJ Cyler as Blue Ranger Billy — will don translucent extraterrestrial armour that crystallizes around their bodies to battle Rita Repulsa (Elizabeth Banks).
The sartorial update may look radical, but the outfits are visual throwbacks to the franchise’s long-running mythology. “The show was about kids coming of age, about metamorphosis,” director Dean Israelite (Project Almanac) says. “These suits needed to feel like they were catalyzed by these kids and their energy, their spirit.”
Overall the armour is shinnier more modern but still capturing the television series the film will be based on with the asthetic and helmet still moulded around a animal/dinosaur. The ladies of the team (pink and yellow suits) breast armour is now more feminely structured and they even have heels in their shoes too.
From the UK promotion we haven’t received an official synopsis, however American promotion does, here it is…
Saban’s Power Rangers follows five ordinary high school kids who must become something extraordinary when they learn that their small town of Angel Grove – and the world – is on the verge of being obliterated by an alien threat. Chosen by destiny, our heroes quickly discover that they are the only ones who can save the planet. But to do so they will have to overcome their real-life issues and band together as the Power Rangers before it is too late.
Power Rangers set for 2017 UK release possibly March/April.
