She’s dangerous, even her mother says she’s a dangerous girl and after last night’s U.S Trailer for Cannes bound for The Neon Demon this morning we have UK version. It’s shorter, more stylish, very hypnotic as Danish auteur Nicolas Winding Refn takes us another psychedelic odyssey of violence and beautiful people
Following the news of its official selection to play in competition at the Cannes Film Festival 2016, Icon Film Distribution have eased our nerves that a UK release is coming. As ever Refn lays down his inspirations in his latest offering From David Lynch to Mario Bava even Tobe Hooper and Jodorowsky.
In The Neon Demon, when aspiring model Jesse (Elle Fanning) moves to Los Angeles, her youth and vitality are devoured by a group of beauty-obsessed women who will use any means necessary to get what she has.
The tone of this trailer is completely different from the longer U.S version largely thanks to the mesmeric electronic score. A score created by Cliff Martinez who are reunited for the first time since the pair worked on Drive and Only God Forgives. The score and Neon lighting continues the ultra styling seen in the directors previous 2 films. There is a sense of Voyeurism of an ‘outsider’, the ugly duckling attempting to become one of those ‘beautiful people’ with those in the game shredding jealousy at every possible moment. Possible suggestion of the short careers models sometimes have and lengths many will go to to stay in the game. The one other thing compared to U.S trailer, we get a glimpse of Keanu Reeves, but what is his role in the film and connection to Jesse? Father?
The Neon Demon has a predominantly talented cast of ladies Jena Malone, Abbey Lee, Bella Heathcote, ,Christina Hendricks and Keanu Reeves. No exact date for UK has been set yet to be set with ‘Summer 2016’ only word we have. Things may change closer to the film’s world premiere in Cannes next month, possibly 8th July as some media outlets are posting.
