“What will you become?“, We will become overly excited as the long road to first Star Wars spin-off film Rogue One: A Star Wars Story film is ticking down rapidly. LucasFilm and Disney as promised have unveil the first UK teaser Trailer which teases all out war is upon us…
With Episode 8 kicking off soon and the upcoming home release of Star Wars: Episode 7 what better time to release the first ‘anthology’ film, which reveals the mission is to ‘destroy’ an iconic weapon from the original trilogy.
Rogue One: A Star Wars Story is the first film in the new standalone movies from Lucasfilm. It tells the story of how a group of unlikely heroes unite to undertake a daring and seemingly impossible mission to steal the plans for the Death Star.
If we had our way we would have a film all the time in that Galaxy far far away. Whilst the trailer has plenty of imagery, locations even a update score from the franchise it clearly feels a stand alone film. It’s good to see Gareth Edwards (Godzilla, Monsters) hasn’t went for tie ins with major characters though that doesn’t mean there won’t be any. I like how there is a sense of mystery especially with our hero Jinn (Felicity Jones), if anything what we get is a quick tease of who the key characters are. We expect over the Summer at least we may learn a little more about each of them and their role in the movie, but some at this stage probably couldn’t say much about in case of spoilers.
We do love the fact our villain played by Ben Mendelsohn is in white the total opposite of the traditional Empire Black colours but is his character one who goes to the ‘dark side’? It’s been a while since we’ve said we’ve been impressed by Forest Whittaker whose found himself recently in direct to DVD films. He’s seems to bring some morality and philosophical sense to the trailer as well as been the scene-stealer too. With about 20 months to go until episode 8 of The Star Wars Saga arrives on our big screens this looks like it will provide those anxious fans the substance to fill that waiting gap.
Rogue One: A Star Wars Story is set to arrive in cinemas in UK, Ireland and USA on 16th December. Also starring Mads Mikkelson, Alan Tudyk, Riz Ahmed and Chinese superstars Donnie Yen, Jiang Wen.
