Are we really surprised with this news? No! From the first teaser trailer right into the latest episodes of Daredevil Netflix series it was only the matter of time The Punisher would get his own series. On the day Marvel Cinema Universe launched in UK&Ireland (Captain America: Civil War) Netflix have put in an order for Frank Castle aka The Punisher to get his own spin off series.
Jon Bernthal looks like he’ll reprise the role, a role he’s critically made his own with surperb performances in Daredevil, so why wouldn’t he continue? He had already proven he could play a completely unhinged badass from his time as Shane on The Walking Dead. After several failed attempts at big screen presence with Dolph Lundgren, Thomas Jane and Ray Stevenson, The Punisher finally looks like he’s found his home with Bernthal the perfect actor for the role.He has the backing not just the critics but the fans too, who have been crying out for this since his creation in 1974.
Via Neflix USA Twitter feed a 25 second teaser trailer was released
Steve Lightfoot (Hannibal, Casualty)the new show’s executive producer and showrunner spoke about Frank Castle…“For me, the complexity and unpredictability of Frank Castle make him an incredibly compelling character and I couldn’t be more excited to dive into his world. After watching Jon’s performance in ‘Marvel’s Daredevil’ I could not be more excited to be working with him to further develop and progress the story of this anti-hero in a show of his own.”
The Punisher will be the 6th Series from Marvel thats been released or about to be released by Netflix. Luke Cage and Iron Fist are next up along with a mini series for The Defenders (street wise Avengers). Daredevil and Jessica Jones will star in the mini series, but there’s no word Frank Castle will. We won’t be surprised if he makes at least a cameo, could he do the same in MCU universe too?
No world on exactly when The Punisher series will be launched , don’t be surprised if it’s not until 2018.
