Studiocanal have sent us a spanking new clip for Bastille Day , a new high-octane action thriller starring Idris Elba (Luther, Avengers: Age Of Ultron), Richard Madden (Game Of Thrones), Kelly Reilly (Eden Lake) and Charlotte Le Bon (The Hundred-Foot Journey).
In “Interrogation“, CIA Agent Sean Briar (Idris Elba) tests pickpocket Michael Mason (Richard Madden) by asking him to steal his wallet without him noticing.
In Bastille Day ,Michael Mason (Richard Madden, ‘Game Of Thrones’) is an American pickpocket living in Paris who finds himself hunted by the CIA when he steals a bag that contains more than just a wallet. Sean Briar (Idris Elba, ‘Luther’, ‘Prometheus’), the field agent on the case, soon realizes that Michael is just a pawn in a much bigger game and is also his best asset to uncover a large-scale conspiracy.
Going against commands, Briar recruits Michael to use his expert pickpocketing skills to help quickly track down the source of the corruption. As a 24hr thrill ride ensues, the unlikely duo discover they are both targets and must rely upon each other in order to take down a common enemy.
We caught a preview of this film last Monday, we went with very few expectations, without giving too much away it rose above those generic expectations. Fans of Luc Besson/EuropaCorp action films will enjoy this, delivering a little more to deliver a solid film. Elba is certainly a man of many talents from his detective skills of Luther to his recent animated antics of Zootropolis & The Jungle Book to this delivering his best addition to be James Bond (he gets my vote). However whilst he kicks ass, he also unleashes his vocal talents too, right at the end credits! Stay tuned for our review later this week.
Directed by James Watkins (Woman In Black, Eden Lake), Bastille Day will be released in UK cinemas April 22.
