For many fans of The Terminator franchise, the most recent film Terminator: Genisys was the last straw with the mish mess of reboot of the original film. It seems Sarah Connor, Emilia Clarke won’t be involved whilst Skydance ‘readjust’ in order to fix their plans for the future.
Whilst promoting the upcoming Season 6 of Game Of Thrones (episode one next Monday), the British actress was asked by Coming Soon up her future in Terminator.
“No. Can I say that? It’s okay. No. Uh-uh. But I have some very different roles coming up.”
Well it seems Clarke has several projects coming up but none in the Terminator with Me Before You her next big screen outing. It doesn’t mean the franchise is been scrapped (even if the post film talk suggested it was) just they are taking time to create a story that is positive for the franchise or least keep it alive. Will they go still with Sarah Connor saved by Terminator arc or something just as absurd? Does the franchise still have the capabilities to make a solid comeback?
The Terminator himself Arnold Schwarzenegger has said he was “looking forward to” the franchises future meaning there will be films even if the sixth film dropped it’s May 2017 release date before Genisys was released. No information regarding a replacement date or actual news on the overall future of the franchise with Skydance Pictures options ending in 2019. After this the rights will land back in the hands of James Cameron and it seems he’s more interested in making endless Avatar sequels.
Clarke also gave insight into her next role she discovered whilst making Genisys
“I read the book [Me Before You] and it was just the most beautiful thing I had ever read. I was shooting ‘Terminator’ at the time and had a rocket launcher in my hand while crying like a little girl. I felt like the author, Jojo Moyes, had found a part of me and just wrote it down. I knew that I just had to play the role.”
Me Before You is set for 3rd June UK release.
