Demolition
Demolition the latest offering from acclaimed director Jean-Marc Vallée (Dallas Buyers Club, Wild) releases in UK cinemas on April 29th and today, Fox Searchlight Pictures have sent us a brand new featurette – ‘Defining The Character’.

In this new promo, we learn more about Jake Gyllenhaal‘s character Davis, a man who has lived by the rules and is shaken when life takes a tragic turn.

In Demolition we meet Davis (Jake Gyllenhaal), a successful investment banker, struggles after losing his wife in a tragic car crash. Despite pressure from his father in law Phil (Chris Cooper) to pull it together, Davis continues to unravel. What starts as a complaint letter to a vending machine company turns into a series of letters revealing startling personal admissions. Davis’ letters catch the attention of customer service rep Karen (Naomi Watts) and, amidst emotional and financial burdens of her own, the two form an unlikely connection. With the help of Karen and her son Chris (Judah Lewis), Davis starts to rebuild, beginning with the demolition of the life he once knew.

We also have a few clips, first up is a clip called ‘Nice Girl’ Davis takes a moment to reflect upon his relationship with his wife.

In the next clip ‘Swinging Through’ Davis Davis furthest removed from his once-thriving professional life. Rowdy, careless and disheveled, Davis enters his office, with a harsh reality check waiting for him

In this clip – It’s Just Shiny Stuff – Karen (Watts) makes an unscheduled visit to see Davis (Gyllenhaal), who’s appreciation for material things seems to have diminished.

The film is recently out in USA receiving a mixed reception, however we caught the film at February’s Glasgow Film Festival and we where genuinely surprised how much we enjoyed it. It may not have the power of Dallas Buyers Club and Wild, however sometimes the the strangest thing help you rebuild your life when tragedy strikes.

Demolition will arrive in UK on 29th April.
