Alicia Vikander Is Lara Croft Tomb Raider

Lara Croft Tomb Raider
Just when you believed Daisy Ridley was going to be the all new Lara Croft aka Tomb Raider, news has broken , Alicia Vikander will now play our posh archaeologist adventurer.

The Hollywood Reporter are saying the young Swedish actress has signed on to play our rejuvenated Tomb Raider based on her first adventure. The film won’t be based around of the Angelina Jolie  2001 version or the 2003 follow up Tomb Raider: Cradle Of Life but 2013 game. The game described as “the story of a young and untested Croft fighting to survive her first adventure.”

MGM and Warner Bros. are co-producing the film, with MGM overseeing production. Norwegian filmmaker Roar Uthaug will direct this film which will also be his first English Language feature. His last film was The Wave (out in UK 15th August, StudioCanal) which was submitted to be his country’s Oscar contender(read our Frightfest Glasgow 2016 review at our sister site Cinehouse).

Evan Daugherty and Geneva Robertson-Dworet have worked on the script, which at this stage we don’t have much more information on but if you played the 2013 game you may have an idea what we can expect.

Some fans might be disappointed at Star Wars: The Force Awakens star Ridley is no longer connected to the project. However there was no solid evidence she was in line to play Croft, she would have been a perfect choice too. But as many other film projects where been connected to Ridley it was obvious she wasn’t going to play the role.

Alicia Vikander is equally a great choice for the role whose already proven her worth in film. Oscar winner for her role in The Danish Girl (out to own 16th May), fabulously haunting in Ex_Machina, fun in Man From U.N.C.L,E. It’s been a troubled time for gaming movie adaptations so eyes will be on Duncan Jones upcoming Warcraft and Michael Fassbender’s Assassin’s Creed movies. If things go well there could be possible talk of delivering a Lara Croft franchise.

Alicia Vikander can be next seen in the Matt Damon action flick Jason Bourne (27th July) as well as the drama The Light Between Oceans (6th January 2017) .
