Rarely do we get mockumentaries that can deliver the laughs, but many are calling this ‘dope’, can Connoer4real deliver those beats?
Popstar: Never Stop Never Stopping is headlined by musical digital-shorts superstars Andy Samberg, Akiva Schaffer and Jorma Taccone, collectively known as The Lonely Island. The comedy goes behind the scenes as singer/rapper Conner4Real (Samberg) faces a crisis of popularity after his sophomore album flops, leaving his fans, sycophants and rivals all wondering what to do when he’s no longer the dopest star of all.
If your wondering who The Lonely Island can be found, it’s Saturday Night Live. SNL the long running popular TV show which over the decades have gave us some of the best comedians come actors. From Bill Murray, Eddie Murphy, Will Ferrell, Tina Fey, Kristen Wiig, Ben Stiller even Adam Sandler, Jason Sudeikis have all made it big thanks to the show. The Lonely Island thanks to SNL created a number of shorts now they have a feature length film which will excite fans of the trio.
Looking at the trailer Justin Beiber and Justin Timberlake seem to be the big inspiration for Samberg’s character, doing scarily well too. This is an NSFW promo which has F-Bombs, semi naked woman but overall this is an really silly trailer. Truly ridiculous song titles such as ‘Jizz In My Pants’, ‘I Am A Boat’ help this film slide into absurdity. It’s certainly trying to be 21st Century This Is Spinal Tap for X-Factor generation and kudos to the likes of Simon Cowell who is one of many cameos in this film as these guys rip into his cash cow.
Popstar: Never Stop Never Stopping will arrive in UK&Ireland thanks to Universal Pictures on 26th August. The film also stars Jorma Taccone, Akiva Schaffer,Sarah Silverman, Mike Birbiglia, Tim Meadows,Maya Rudolph,Joan Cusack and Imogen Poots.
