Like Adam Sandler, Kevin Hart can’t seem deliver a remotely funny film. Things might be changing this summer after the release of Central Intelligence add Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson you might be onto a winner. In the film’s new UK trailer Johnson plays the outcast who becomes CIA, he hates bullies but most of all he’s Jason Bourne in shorts!
In his latest attempt at the Buddy comedies Hart might have found his yang to his ying with naturally funny Johnson, he may not be a cop but are we looking at what Ride Along should have been?
In Central Intelligence, the story follows a one-time bullied geek who grew up to be a lethal CIA agent (Johnson), coming home for his high-school reunion. Claiming to be on a top-secret case, he enlists the help of the former “big man on campus” (Hart), now an accountant who misses his glory days. But before the staid numbers-cruncher realizes what he’s getting into, it’s too late to get out, as his increasingly unpredictable new friend drags him through a world of shoot-outs, double-crosses and espionage that could get them both killed in more ways than he can count.
I can’t believe I’m about to say this, I’m actually curious to see this. Yes that might not mean much to many of you, but if you do, you know my track record with Adam Sandler isn’t great and Hart to me is the African American version of Sandler. But like any actor, pair them with someone with solidity you could be on to a winner. With Johnson onboard he will have an more wider appeal than the likes of Ice Cube. He has the charisma suited to this type of film with Hart more muted than usual which helps this film flow, The trailer doesn’t overall showcase the overall humour tone, it’s all on the chemistry which off course sell this film.
Central Intelligence is set for 29th June UK release and will also star Aaron Paul, Amy Ryan, Danielle Nicollet, Ryan Hansen, and Slaine.
