Saoirse Ronan To Star In On Chesil Beach Based On Ian McEwan Novel

Number 9 Films today have announced Autumn production of On Chesil Beach, based on Ian McEwan’s acclaimed novel which was selected for the Booker Prize shortlist, 2007.The team behind the award winning Carol,will be producing the film will be directed by Dominic Cooke (The Hollow Crown) in his debut cinema feature.

Oscar nominate Irish actress Saoirse Ronan (Brooklyn) has been confirmed to star in the lead role as Florence which is set in England in 1962. From the precise depiction of two young lovers, to the touching story of how their unexpressed misunderstandings and fears shape the rest of their lives, On Chesil Beach is a tender story which shows how the entire course of a life can be changed by a gesture not made or a word not spoken.

Producers Elizabeth Karlsen (Carol, Youth) and Stephen Woolley (Carol, Youth) of Number 9 Films say: “It’s an extremely exciting prospect to be reunited with Saoirse Ronan on such a beautiful and heartbreaking project. Ronan can currently be seen in the feature film Brooklyn, for which she has been nominated for an Academy Award, Golden Globe, BAFTA and SAG award. She will next be seen on stage starring in The Crucible on Broadway and was most recently announced to star in Lady Bird, Greta Gerwig’s directorial debut.
