It’s been forgotten, passed about like the parcel at party games but now it’s finally getting a release, the legend continues as Amityville: The Awakening first Trailer arrives!

Nearly 2 years after the film is produced, even had a trailer under it’s previous title Amityville: The Lost Tapes. The dust has now settled. Dimension Films have step forward, a new trailer has been made, the revival for the cult horror franchise can commence! Most importantly it’s a chance for fans of the original films to step into the horrors of 112 Ocean Avenue, Amityville New York.

Amityville: The Awakening is been described as a revival of the popular franchise and a modern twist on the classic horror film.In the film, Belle and her family move into a new house, but when strange phenomena begin to occur in the house, Belle begins to suspect her Mother isn’t telling her everything and soon realizes they just moved into the infamous Amityville house.

I always new this franchise was very popular, but did I realise this version is the 14th version which started 37 years ago with Stuart Rosenberg’s Oscar-nominated film. An outsider to the films who may glaze with a curious eye might decide to dodge this one with so many sequels. However it’s all down to that ‘Twist’ in the original story, but there is a few concerns In U.S this could potentially be a PG-13 (UK is 12A) rating. Whilst many folks might not have a problem with this in Horrors that have always been ‘Adult only’ or at least 15 rating will be upset. ‘Watering down’ the scares for the sake more cash at the box office ignoring the plea’s of the core fanbase.

This is a Blumhouse production hopefully they could pull the (scary) rabbit out the hat  and with Frank Khalfoun who directed the underrated Maniac remake, pull all stops to deliver. There is suggestions this could have some ‘body horror’ involved in the premise with Cameron Monaghan (Gotham’s sadistic Jerome) is disabled character, perfect for possession. It’s hard to say how well this will do but what it does do is commit the cardinal sin of revealing too much , though some nice solid scares and a creepy grin from Monaghan too!

No word on who, when UK release will be, but in U.S  Amityville: The Awakening will be out on 1st April. The film also stars Bella Thorne, Jennifer Jason Leigh and Kurtwood Smith.
