When It come Country Music genre many of may not know much about out of a few names Hank Williams is one of those you could remember if asked. I Saw The Light is the biopic of his story with Tom Hiddleston downing his Loki’s Spectre to be human again as the Musical Legend, watch first (U.S) trailer…
“People don’t write music. It’s given to them.” – Hank Williams
Loki the crooner?! In I Saw The Light that tells the story based on Colin Escott’s biography the much loved musician who delivered such hits as Hey Good Lookin, Ramblin’ Man,You Win Again,You Cheatin Heart and of course I Saw The Light. The film looks to focus on Williams problems with drugs and alcohol mixed with his suffering of been a Spina Bifida sufferer. Sadly he died aged 29 leaving a legacy of been one of the most significant country music artists of his generation.
As ever Hollywood’s reliance on British actors to play well known continues with Hiddleston the latest trend and his Alabama twang intrigues. The film has been running the film festival circuit for a few months now leaving with fairly decent reviews with solid performances including Elizabeth Olsen who plays Williams wife Audrey (rumoured to be dating the British actor in real life). I Saw The Light seems to follow the same paths Walk The Line and Ray followed focusing on the struggles (philosophically and socially struggles) rather than the music that made Hank Williams an household name.
The overall view of the film is solid but the early chat of potential Oscar contention is still up in the air. I Saw The Light will arrive in UK 5th February 2016 so stay tune for UK version of the trailer. The film also co-stars David Krumholtz, Bradley Whitford, Maddie Hasson, Cherry Jones, Josh Pais and Wrenn Schmidt.
