Luke Skywalker could feel the force 38 years ago, 1 year previously North of London the magic of Star Wars was developing, Elsetree 1976.The Works have released the official trailer of upcoming Star Wars documentary hoping to put a face or voice behind real people behind Boba Fett, Greedo, Darth Vader. Feel The ‘Doc Side’!
In 1976, during the hottest summer on record, Star Wars was filmed in suburban North London. Nobody involved had any idea how big the film would become, many couldn’t even remember the title. Yet, for the extras and actors in smaller roles, their faces hidden in masks and helmets, this seemingly insignificant job would go on to colour their lives even four decades later. ELSTREE 1976 is their story.
We may diss the fashion, technology trends but as a cinephile we can look back in awe in some truly amazing films been made. Star Wars was a worldwide phenomenon, you could say the modern day blockbuster has a lot to thank Star Wars and films of 1970s. Only the likes of The Lord Of The Rings, Harry Potter have came close to matching or suceeding the success of the original Star Wars franchise. Film franchises of this size are rare now, many try many fail to get close, so here’s hoping Elsetree 1976 will give credit to those actors we sometimes forget about, not another film cashing in on the upcoming The Force Awakens. Now wouldn’t we all love to have been a fly on the wall in George Lucas office when Star Wars took its first step? We can only dream as that was in a decade far far away.
No exact date confirmed yet but Elsetree 1976 will be released in 2016.
