Bridge Of Spies is a dramatic thriller set against the backdrop of a series of historic events, and the story of James Donovan (Hanks).A Brooklyn lawyer who finds himself thrust into the centre of the Cold War when the CIA sends him on the near-impossible task to negotiate the release of a captured American U-2 pilot. Back home Donavan must defend Rudolf Abel(played by the brilliant Mark Rylance), a suspected KGB spy whom they hope to exchange for the captured pilot.
It looks like Tom Hanks is on form again with this one. This trailer shows a little more backlash Donovan receives for defending a ‘Commie’ ,something Spielberg is good at with his leading characters in his previous historically factual films. Challenges his judgement or if anything his morals and ethics in doing the right thing in the face of adversity. Spielberg and Hanks have created such a fantastic relationship will this one deliver another critically acclaimed hit, it’s too soon to say. If this does deliver we wouldn’t be shocked to see Oscar nominations coming there way.
Boasting a script written by Ethan Coen & Joel Coen adapted from a Matt Charman . The Bridge Of Spies also co-stars Amy Ryan, Sebastian Koch, and Alan Alda. The film will be out in UK&Ireland from 27th November (USA 16th October).
