Described as ‘half genius and half madman’ In October at London’s Southbank Centre Terry will discuss his life, career, art and the broader question of creativity, the event will focus on Terry’s latest memoir, Gilliamesque: A Pre-Posthumous Memoir, which is due to be published by Canongate this October.
Gilliam is one of the most multifaceted, visionary talents alive. He first found fame as a member of Monty Python, and over the course of the subsequent decades his genius has rampaged across various mediums: comedy, opera and, above all, cinema. Hollywood royalty have flocked to work in his movies. The likes of Robert De Niro, Bruce Willis, Brad Pitt, Robin Williams, Uma Thurman and Johnny Depp. Starring in his movies such as Brazil, Twelve Monkeys,The Fisher King, The Adventures of Baron Munchausen and Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas,many may have not been critical successes however to fans they are cult masterpieces.
To mark the upcoming release of his visual memoir Gilliamesque, Gilliam is joined on stage by BBC arts editor Will Gompertz to explore the diverse influences that have fused together in his imagination.What, they ask, does creativity thrive on, and how can it be fostered in each of our lives?Fans will be treated to a night great chat, visual treats through still images and film clips, they take us on an immersive multimedia journey through the many inspirations Gilliam has drawn on: from the Bible and Grimms’ Fairy Tales to Mad Magazine and the films of Powell and Pressburger.
Half a century on Inside Terry Gilliam Head will be a great night of fun, educational and fabulous insight into one of Hollywood’s unique characters. The People’s Movies Number one Gilliam fan Ian Schultz is hoping to attend and he’ll bring his thoughts from the the night.
