It was a troubled production but unlike Fantastic Four, World War Z delivered more expectations, most of all decent reviews. Now Paramount are pushing ahead with World War Z 2 and  Steven Knight who is on script duties has delivered an insight in what we can expect in the sequel.

In an interview with Collider Oscar nominated British writer Knight has delivered a draft script for World War Z 2, talking about the nature of the undead and how he was given a clean slate for the sequel…

I was approached with the idea of, ‘How do we move this along?’ so who could resist? I think the beauty of the first film was the way that it never paused for breath. It never spent a moment thinking, ‘Hang on a minute, we’d better tell the audience what this is all about.’ It stayed in the moment, it stayed with that person.”

It’s understood that ‘clean slate’ suggest his script will give his the full independence from the source of the first film but also from Max Brook‘s book the original source. We don’t officially know what Brad Pitt‘s character Gerry Lane has to face however Knight did say he liked the POV of the first film. This could mean this part of the film with some sources from the book that wasn’t used been used too or as we mentioned something completely different. You wonder if they’ll use elements of the last part from World War Z that were n’t used which saw Gerry head to Russia when they learned the zombies didn’t like the cold. Could also Matthew Fox army character story arc be used in sequel one that saw Gerry rescuing her from Fox.

The Orphanage/The Impossible/Penny Dreadful director Juan Antonia Bayona will pick up the reigns one we’re looking forward too largely thanks to the Spanish director’s Horror credentials. Also pairing with a writer with solid, well written films World War Z 2 has a promising and exciting future. If they capture the claustrophobia tone of the first film they have every chance of matching if not beating the success of the first film.

With the busy schedule of Brad Pitt has, this film has a set date of 9th June 2017 penciled in and hopefully over next 12-15 months we’ll learn more about the film including the film’s official title too.
