Already a critical and commercial hit in his native Spain, Alberto Rodriguez’s claustrophobic thriller Marshland get’s a stunning new trailer ahead of its UK release next month. Set in the wetlands of Andalusia, the trailer for Marshland draws parallels to the first season of True Detective for its tone and setting, and Oscar-winning Argentinian thriller, The Secret in Their Eyes for its political back-drop. The film took home a huge 10 Spanish Academy Goya Awards including Best Film, Best Lead Actor, and Best Original Screenplay, and looks like an ideal antidote to the usual Summer blockbusters.
Synopsis – Set in Andalusia’s wetlands in 1980 at the start of Spain’s transition to democracy, two teenage girls go missing in a remote and forgotten town.
Two troubled homicide detectives. Juan (Javier Gutiérrez) and Pedro (Raúl Arévalo) must put aside their differences to hunt a predator who for years has terrorised a community stuck in the past.
The film also stars María Varod, Perico Cervantes, and Jesús Ortiz and is released in UK cinemas on 7th August.
