After it’s critically acclaimed premiere at the Cannes Film Festival, Justin Kurzel’s revisionist adaptation of one the great bard’s most famous plays the film now embarks in it’s cinematic journey. The highly anticipated tale of war, ambition, love, murder and betrayal has been and still is read by high school students UK will either be rejoicing or hiding in a pit of darkness.
For those who may not know the story, Macbeth is the story of a fearless warrior and inspiring leader brought low by ambition and desire. A thrilling interpretation of the dramatic realities of the times and a reimagining of what wartime must have been like for one of literature’s most famous and compelling characters, a story of all-consuming passion and ambition set in war torn Scotland.
Been Scottish myself I don’t feel any patriotism though doesn’t mean I don’t have any respect for this literature masterpiece I have substantial amount of respect.I have so much respect for anyone willing to attempt to deliver a new take on such a powerhouse of a story and give it a refreshing twist. Kurzel who directed the highly underrated Snowtown looks like he has delivered a brooding intense piece of work the passion can be seen on the actors in every scene. The main question will be in several years time will his film stands the sands of time and be able to sit side by side by Orson Welles, Kurosawa‘s renditions? If we go by the critical appraisal of the film from Cannes plays the formidable pairing of Fassbender and Marion Cotillard we may just have a winner.
MacBeth arrives in UK&Irish cinemas from 2nd October co-starring Sean Harris, Paddy Considine, David Thewlis, Jack Reynor and Elizabeth Debicki.
