It was one of our highlights of Sundance 2015 and now in the words of Benny Hill Michael Fassbender is the fastest gungslinger in the west, that’s Slow West. In the UK trailer Magneto himself proves the resurgence of Western film genre is more than a blimp, but one with humour.
Starring Michael Fassbender (X-Men: Days of Future Past, 12 Years a Slave) and Kodi Smith-McPhee (Dawn of the Planet of the Apes), Slow West follows the story of 16-year-old Jay Cavendish (Smit-McPhee) as he journeys across the American frontier at the end of the 19th century, in search of the woman he loves. Along the way he is joined by Silas (Fassbender), a mysterious traveller with his own agenda, and is hotly pursued by an outlaw named Payne (Ben Mendelsohn).
The directors name maybe very familiar as it’s John Maclean from Cult Scottish rock band The Beta Band, this believe it or not his debut film. Slow West is a film brimming with maturity , quality and the reviews from the Festival circuit back it up. It was one of our favourite films of Sundance that our writer Andrew McArthur gave the film 5 stars, a film that sticks close to traditions and one of the best westerns since Unforgiven. Fassbender looks to excel at anything he tries and he feels naturally at home in this commanding the screen with ‘rag-tag’ authority.
Slow West co-stars Caren Pistorius (The Light Between Oceans) and Rory McCann (Game of Thrones) with the film been released in UK&Ireland 26th June (Friday 15th May USA).
