He’s now said goodbye to the ‘shire but he’s still elementary with Sherlock but now Martin Freeman is set to join Marvel Cinema Universe in Captain America:Civil War.
With only Ant Man left to complete Marvel Cinema Universe Phase 2,Joe and Anthony Russo are busy getting Phase 3 premiere film Captain America: Civil War ready for its 2016 release. Whilst the cast line up is looking more like a supplemental Avengers movie with Chris Evans leading the line as Captain America, but who Martin Freeman will be is unknown at this stage. With Sebastian Stan aka Winter Soldier returning with Robert Downey Jr, Jeremy Renner, Scarlett Johansson, Anthony Mackie, Elizabeth Olsen are also confirmed. With Chadwick Boseman as Black Panther, Daniel Bruhl as Baron Zemo the film’s enemy and yet to be named Spiderman to be the other newcomers.
With a year until the movie arrives gossip will be rife on what side Martin Freeman will be on, Marvel are good at keeping tight lips when revealing cast roles. Nothing is known if it’s a one off role or a character that will be seen in several Marvel movies. Whatever it’ll be the chances of him working with his old mucha Benedict Cumberbatch as Doctor Strange could be good.
“From his roles as Bilbo Baggins and Doctor Watson to Tim in The Office, Martin’s range from the dramatic to the comedic has consistently impressed us,” says Marvel chief Kevin Feige. “We couldn’t be more honoured or excited to have such a talented actor join the Marvel Cinematic Universe.”
It’s all speculation at the moment, but the reputation Martin Freeman has gained thanks to The Hobbit and Sherlock Holmes (which will have its end of year special), will excite many. He has an exciting diversity to his choice of roles will entice our curiosities.
Captain America: Civil War will arrive in UK Cinemas 29th April 2016.
