A Little frustrated unable to find a cinema able to watch the latest Studio Ghibli’s The Tale of The Princess Kaguya will I ever see one of their animations on the big screen? Yes! Regarded as the last anime to be coming from the studio When Marnie Was There has now released it American trailer, check it out…
When Marnie Was There (Omoide no Mânî)tells the tale of Anna (voiced by Hailee Stienfield) a young girl who spends her summersin a small sleepy town by the sea. There whilst boating through the marshes she finds an old mansion and it’s here she meets Marnie where both bond forming a friendship.
As ever we get the highest of quality from Studio Ghibli, the trailer is shortish but beautiful mst of all melancholic. The film opened in it’s native Japan in 2014 to poor box office which resulted in the film’s director Hiromasa Yonebayashi (Arrietty)quitting the legendary studio. Here’s hoping the recent rumours of the Ghibli closing it’s doors when Hayao Miyazaki retired are untrue and the more recent gossip that they will only go into a temporary hiatus when they attempt to restructure itself.
Asa ever we get a stellar cast voicing the characters with John C. Reilly, Kiernan Shipka, Geena Davis, Kathy Bates, Ellen Burstyn, and Catherine O’Hara making up the other voicecast. No word on the UK release however it is expected StudioCanal will distribute the film but in USA GKIDS Films releasing When Marnie Was There on 22nd May.
