The Gunman is released in cinemas later this month, and to celebrate, Studiocanal have sent us a new clip for your viewing pleasure. Directed by the man behind TakenPierre MorelThe Gunman sees Sean Penn in his first action role in a film that is based on The Prone Gunman, a novel by Jean-Patrick Manchette.

Penn plays a former Special Forces soldier, Jim Terrier. Suffering from PTSD and trying to reconnect with his long-time lover, Jim sees himself dragged into a cat and mouse game that spans across Europe.

In the new clip from the film, we see a character played by Idris Elba ask Jim if he ‘ever had one of those days where everybody wants to kill you for something?‘. Judging my Jim’s puzzled expression he’s not sure who to trust, and neither are we.

Joining Penn and Elba are Javier Bardem, Ray Winstone, and Mark Rylance. With such a high-class cast, The Gunman looks like it could be a step-up from Morel’s previous work on Taken. We don’t have much longer to wait to find out, as the film is released in UK cinemas on 20th March.

I have a passion for all things Spielberg, old school hip hop, and bad action films on a Friday night. My favourite films include Jaws, Annie Hall, The Jerk, Mulholland Drive, and Double Indemnity.
