Virtually since the creation of film he’s never been off our screens for more than 5 minutes but now the world’s Greatest Sleuth Sherlock Holmes has one final case in Mr Holmes, watch first UK Trailer.
Guy Ritchie portrayed him as an action detective but we all get older ,even the legendary detective does and in this new adaptation by Bill Condon, Ian McKellan will deliver tradition. But can the greatest mastermind solve a case that’s plagued him for nearly 50 years?
In Mr Holmes we go back to 1947, the world famous sleuth has retired to a remote Sussex farmhouse, living in relative anonymity with only his housekeeper Mrs Munro and her young son Roger for company. Cantankerous, demanding and frustrated with the mis-representation of him in Watson’s best-selling novels, he diverts his attention to an unsolved case. As the mystery deepens, Sherlock tries desperately to recall the events of 30 years ago that ultimately led to his retirement.
Our co-editor Hannah watched the film at it’s Premiere at this year’s Berlin Film Festival (review will come closer to release date), giving it a positive review. Probably largely thanks to the superb Ian McKellan who delivers nothing but stellar performances whatever he stars in. What excites us about this one is the fact we’re seeing the iconic detective in his twilight years and it shows no matter how old we get the old magic will be with you until you die!
Mr Holmes has now got an official UK release date thanks to Entertainment One who will release it on 19th June 2015 (USA date to be confirmed by Roadside Attractions). The film co-stars Laura Linney (The Savages), Frances de la Tour (Harry Potter) and newcomer Milo Parker.
