Author Nicholas Sparks has already had nine of his books adapted to the big screen, including A Walk to Remember, The Notebook, and Dear John, and now his tenth, The Longest Ride will be hitting our screens at the end of May. Fast becoming a genre in itself, Sparks’ books, and the films they are turned into, are romantic melodramas, specialising in emotional, ‘tear-jerking’ storylines. The newly released trailer for The Longest Ride doesn’t look like director George Tillman Jr is keen to stray from the popular formula just yet.
The film tells the story of a star-crossed love affair between Luke (Scott Eastwood), a former champion bull rider looking to make a comeback, and Sophia (Britt Robertson), a college student who is about to embark upon her dream job in New York City’s art world. As conflicting paths and ideals test their relationship, Sophia and Luke make an unexpected and life altering connection with Ira (Alan Alda), whose memories of his own decades-long romance with his beloved wife deeply inspire the young couple.
The Longest Ride is released in UK cinemas on 25th May.
