When writing about Max, the new film from Boaz Yakin (Remember The Titans) about a military service dog in Afghanistan, it is hard not to draw comparisons to American Sniper. Both feature military heroes having trouble adjusting to life outside of combat – one just happens to be a dog. Unlike American Sniper, Max is squarely aimed at a family friendly market, with patriotism combined with a lovable dog and a troubled teen.
A military working dog Max returns from service in Afghanistan after his handler’s death. He’s adopted by the man’s family to help the grieving family heal.
Based on a true story, the film looks to be a bit of a tear-jerker, especially with the not-so-subtle trailer sharing that the dog has PTSD, and we see him upset at his owner’s funeral.
Max stars Robbie Amell, Josh Wiggins, Lauren Graham, and Thomas Haden Church, Max will reach our screens on 9th October.
