The first trailer for Cameron Crowe’s Aloha features on all-star cast in beautiful Hawaii. This will be Crowe’s first film since the slightly schmaltzy We Bought a Zoo, four years ago. Famed for his old-fashioned take on romance, his irony-free films have always found a good reception, from Jerry Maguire to Almost Famous. Judging from the trailer, Aloha seems to continue the romantic trend.
The film follows down-on-his-luck military contractor Brian Gilcrest (Bradley Cooper) who returns to Hawaii, the place where his career was once great. Hoping for a second chance to restart his career, and his relationship with former lover Tracy (Rachel McAdams), his feelings for his new colleague Ng (Emma Stone) could jeopardise that.
As undeniably watchable as Crowe’s films are, some of them seem to venture a bit too far in to the middle of the road. With a good-looking cast, gazing longingly at each other, it’s sometimes difficult to engage with his characters. Hopefully with all the star-wattage this film has behind it Aloha will be different, and if all else fails, it certainly looks stunning.
Starring Bradley Cooper, Emma Stone, Rachel McAdams, John Krasinski, Alec Baldwin, Danny Strong and Bill Murray, Aloha is released in UK Cinemas in September 2015.
