We love The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo Book as well as Noomi Rapace films, we’ll admit we did enjoy the 2012 David Fincher remake but when will the sequel arrive? As the months tick away and the fact Fincher’s film under performed worldwide at the box office Sony still haven’t made an decision on if The Girl Who Played With Fire will make it to the big screen. It seems Lisbeth Salander aka Rooney Mara has laid to rest the idea of a sequel, it’s ‘dead’.
Speaking to E! Online at a recently charity dinner Mara “I don’t think it’s going to happen,I’m sad never to do it again, but it just doesn’t seem like it’s in the cards.”
Depending on who that actor is, when this type of statement is released it’s not always 100% truth more personal opinion however Mara was the film’s lead character. With Mara recently stating her interest in playing Hacker Salander again we presume she has inside knowledge of what’s really happening however Sony haven’t officially said anything yet. So if anything Mara comments could be more connected to her scheduling rather than when or if the sequel.
One possible sign that The Girl Who Played With Fire may not be dead and buried came from David Fincher himself when he reportedly spoke to Swedish website Afton Bladet. The reports says about Sony making large investments in the project plus a script has been written “I think because (Sony) already has spent millions of dollars on the rights and the script, it will result in something. The script that we now have has huge potential. I can reveal that it is extremely different from the book.”
The days of big budgeted 18 rated dark thrillers in cinema are becoming rarer and rarer hence the interest that this film hopefully the final film, The Girl Who Kicked The Hornet’s Nest will hopefully be made.
