For a director who is about to turn 26 the imapact he’s made for his 6 feature films has been extraordinary and this March Xavier Dolan‘s Mommy, we can now check out the UK Trailer.
The Canadian filmmaker may have established in Arthouse film genre he’s now making steps to deliver his first mainstream film break through with Death And Life Of John F.Donovan, we have a look at his 2014 Cannes prize winning feature…
Mommy we meet passionate widowed single mother Diane ‘Die’ Despres (Anne Dorval) who finds herself burdened with the full-time custody of her unpredictable 15-year-old ADHD son (Antoine Olivier Pilon). As they struggle to make ends meet, Kyla (Suzanne Clément), the peculiar new neighbour across the street, offers her help. Together, they strive for a new sense of balance.
Mommy was Canada’s entry into The Oscars Best Foreign Feature which is seen as one of the main factors for the film’s delayed release in UK. His film’s have been critically praised by the media he seems to do no wrong and most of the time we do agree, his style is unique though if your not attuned to film style not regarded ‘mainstream’ his vision maybe lost. Dolan has a rare talent to make you shocked, laugh even cry in one film unnerving the senses delivering what cinema was made to do spark emotion and that is good enough for us to check this one out.
Metrodome will be releasing Mommy cinematically in UK&Ireland on 20th March however if your heading to Glasgow Film Festival you can catch 23rd & 24th February. The film also stars Patrick Hurd, Alexandre Goyette, Viviane Pascal and Natalie Hamel-Roy.
