He fights The Taliban by remote control but in his other life he is a family man who is now questioning himself ethically, watch the first UK trailer for Good Kill starring Ethan Hawke.
Directed by Andrew Nicol, Good Kill sees Gattaca director and lead star work together once again, in thriller some critics are calling ‘another American Sniper’ which asks the question ‘Are we creating more terrorists than killing them?’
Good Kill tells the story of Tommy Egan (Hawke) A drone pilot from the comfort of home soil from the flick of his finger takes control of a drone and kill/destroy his intended targets. After he’s done he goes home to his wife (January Jones) and kids as if nothing serious has happened like a normal 9-5 job. However Tommy starts to question his mission when civilians start to be killed bringing him to conflict not just with his wife but his commanding officer (Bruce Greenwood).
You could say this film is going back to the premise of Gattaca questioning our moral judgement, the ethics, sort of perfect timing of everything that’s happened recently. It puts governments in the spotlight on there ‘alleged dubious’ tactics in Iraq & Afghanistan, even today the news of the report about George Bush and Tony Blair been delayed until after May election, politics is deeper in this than we think. The Venice Film Festival reviews where mixed so you could say is however your stance is on these things may decide how much you may like this film.
The Good Kill is been released by Arrow Films and will be in UK cinemas from 10th April, co-starring Zoe Kravitz and Jake Abel.
