One of the most-anticipated films of the upcoming film year, Paul Thomas Anderson’s Inherent Vice has a new UK trailer and it looks rather good indeed. Despite being tipped as one of the big contenders come award season, following yesterday’s announcement, Inherent Vice only came away with one Golden Globe nomination, which saw Joaquin Phoenix get a nod for the Best Actor in the comedy or musical category.
The film follows private eye Doc Sportello (Phoenix) as he investigates the complicated disappearance of his ex-girlfriend. With a noir vibe, and a darkly comic story, Inherent Vice looks to be a lot of fun, and a nice antidote to some of the more sombre films that are released around awards season.
Based on the novel by Thomas Pynchon, Academy Award nominee Paul Thomas Anderson’s seventh film as director appears to seem him return to his wild Boogie Nights roots rather than the more serious There Will Be Blood.
Inherent Vice has an all-star cast, starring Reese Witherspoon (Walk The Line), and Benicio Del Toro (Traffic), Joaquin Phoenix (Gladiator), Josh Brolin (Milk), Owen Wilson (The Royal Tenenbaums), Jena Malone (The Hunger Games: Catching Fire), Martin Short (The Three Amigos), Maya Rudolph (Bridesmaids), and Katherine Waterston (Michael Clayton).
