After successes with other live action outings such as Maleficent and Enchanted, and with the upcoming release of Into The Woods, Disney is trying its luck with one of its oldest and most well-known stories, Cinderella.
With Kenneth Branagh at the helm, it certainly looks like a departure from his previous two films Thor, and Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit, but with seasoned actresses such as Cate Blanchett as the evil stepmother, and Helena Bonham-Carter as the fairy godmother, he probably can’t go far wrong.
Inspired by the timeless story of Cinderella, Disney hopes to the bring the fairytale to a new audience, with Branagh saying, “Being able to direct Disney’s “Cinderella” in the 21st century means that you’re in the driving seat for presenting a myth that has endured across the ages because it connects with human beings at a profound level.”
Cinderella is released in UK cinemas on the 27th March 2015, starring Lily James in the title role and Richard Madden as her potential Prince Charming.
