Whilst James Franco posts yet another ill-advised selfie on Instagram, production house Wild Bunch have just announced that they will launch Spring Breakers: The Second Coming at Cannes Film Festival later this year.
“It’s not a direct sequel although there are allusions to some of the characters in the original,” says Wild Bunch co-chief Vincent Maraval. So no confirmation whether any of the four Spring Breakers leading ladies Ashley Benson, Vanessa Hudgens, Rachel Korine or Selena Gomez will be returning or even Franco and those corn rows.
In the movie, the Spring Breakers do battle with an extreme militant Christian sect that attempts to convert them. The screenplay has been written by Trainspotting’s Irvine Welsh and will be directed by Jonus Akerlund, most well know for the Jason Schwartzman drug movie Spun from 2002, so straight away it shows promise as being as controversial as the original. I just hope Welsh has had the decency to not set the movie in Glasgow, the girls will freeze in their bikinis!
